There are a few things you need to go through prior to arrival on campus. If you have any issues contact Student Services on: studentservicestt@qrc.ac.nz or 09 402 6126. What to do next?
To confirm and secure your place you must do the following three steps:
Step one:
Submit your Acceptance of Place Form HERE
(Your QRC Student ID number can be found on your conditional offer in the subject line).
Step Two:
To confirm and secure your place, you must meet any conditions as stated on the conditional offer letter (read through these carefully).
Step Three:
Pay your $50 Accommodation Placement fee – See below for payment details
Once these steps have been completed, you will receive an email with your Confirmation of Place and a link to the arrival information.

Where to pay your Accommodation Placement Fee & Accommodation Bond:
- You need to transfer your payment into the QRC Public Trust Account.
- Please use your QRC student ID number in the reference field when you make the transfer – this is on your Conditional Offer letter. If you are paying on behalf of a student, please also include the student’s name in the ‘Statement Details’.

Please note that room allocation is subject to availability and that your Accommodation Contract at QRC Lodge is for the duration of the Course.

Getting started with QRC Tai Tokerau
It is important to apply for StudyLink as early as possible.
StudyLink may be able to help pay for your studies and accommodation through allowances and loans. They can help with things like:
- Compulsory Course Fees
- Course-related costs (e.g. Books, Laptop, etc)
- Day-to-Day Living Costs including Rent
- Other costs (e.g. Disability or Childcare)

Fees Free is for first-time learners. Fees-free entitlement will cover:

Northland is New Zealand’s warmest and only subtropical region, where sunny Summer temperatures can get up to 26 degrees and Winters are cool and wet with temperatures around 10 degrees. The weather can be unpredictable so be sure to pack plenty for the cooler months. Rain jackets and an umbrella are a must in the changeable Northland weather.

The QRC Tai Tokerau Halls of Residence is an awesome place to live, don’t forget to bring:
- Bedding: Pillows, pillow cases, sheets, duvet, duvet cover.
- Storage: A small set of drawers and coat hangers.
- Bathroom products: Toilet paper, towels, medical supplies, shampoo, soap.
- Laundry detergent and pegs.
We understand that for many of you this is your first time living away from home. To make this transition as easy as possible it is important that you know the basics and are ready for lodge life.
- Ensure you know how to do laundry – washing and drying (For your uniform).
- Good cleaning practices – for your bedroom and bathroom.
- You are required to do you own laundry – we have communal washing machines and dryers available for $2 per load (using a $2 coin).
Included Food:
The Halls of Residence will have 3 meals per day, 7 days a week for each student.
- Daily continental breakfast – cerals, toasts, fruit, yogurt.
- Buffet lunch – changes daily
- Dinner – changes daily
Paying Rent:

- All students are supplied with a uniform (see below), this will be fitted out during Orientation Week.
- You uniform may take up to two weeks to arrive, in this time you are expected to dress in smart casual.
- Once uniform arrives, students are required to wear their uniform Monday-Friday while in class, travelling to and from QRC Halls of Residence and official functions and excurstions.
Diploma of Hospitality Management Uniform:
Females are supplied with:
- 1 business jacket
- 1 skirt
- 1 pair or trousers
- 3 blouses
- 1 knitter vest
- 1 tie
- 1 scarf
- 1 name badge
- You are required to supply your own smart black shoes. When wearing the skirt females can wear either sheer, natural or black coloured stockings or black socks.
Males will be supplied with:
- 1 business jacket
- 2 pairs of trousers
- 3 shirts
- 1 jumper
- 1 tie
- 1 name badge
- You are required to supply your own smart black shoes and black socks.
Certificate in Tourism Operations Uniform:
- 2 polo shirts
- 1 pair of shorts
- 1 pair of trousers
- 1 jacket
- You are required to supply your own black shoes and black socks
Certificate in Business Uniform

What shoes can you wear?
- Tidy black business like shoes for the Diploma in Hospitality Management – Flats or semi-flats are fine, heels are not required.
- Tidy black shoes for all Certificates.
You are required to bring the following with you before you start studying.
- A laptop – Contact QRC who can advise on what laptop is best
- Pens/pencils/ruler/pencil case etc
- Notepad
- Calculator
- Backpack
- Water bottle / reusable coffee mug
- There is range of activities that students might be interested in participating in outside of class time – paddle boarding, fishing, kayaking, diving, etc.
- Jobs will be posted on our noticeboard for those wanting to earn extra money while staying with us making it easier for you to enjoy some local attractions
We have a number of initiatives at QRC Tai Tokerau to ensure you are looking after your health and well being. Studies show that physical activity can have an impact on cognitive skills, attitudes and academic behaviour – all of which improve academic performance. Please bring a pair of sports shoes with you as well as comfy clothing for team sports and various exercise classes.

When you arrive in New Zealand it is advised that you have a small amount of NZ$ for initial purchases on your arrival. Money can be exchanged at all airports. New Zealand shops accept cash, ‘Eftpo’ bank cards and credit cards. QRC can also help you to arrance for a bank account to be set up if you don’t already have one. Please note, we drive on the left hand side of the road in New Zealand so if you are planning to drive be aware of this. If not already supplied, please bring the following to orientation:
- Details of your address in your home country, written in English
- Your current student visa or permit
You orientation and enrollment commences on the date noted on your Offer of Place. A copy of the orientation schedule can be found within this pack and your attendance is compulsory. During orientation there will be a tour of Paihia and you will be given information about QRC facilities and procedures. You will also meet current students and staff.
We will be hosting a welcome function, please ensure you RSVP with guest numbers prior to arriving.
