Throughout their studies, QRC's management students are taught about the importance of maintaining a set of values which support the organisational vision and shape the company culture.

Today the academic and administrative teams are putting into practice one of QRC's values, "Fun and Collaborative Work", with a group luncheon in QRC Cafe.

Internship Story - Lillian Renwick

QRC Adventure Tourism Management student, Lillian Renwick, is enjoying being a member of Southern Discoveries in Milford Sound where she works in the southern hemisphere’s most spectacular fiord environment and self-proclaimed 8th Wonder of the World.

As a Boat Host her job is varied but customer service based. Her responsibilities include operating the on-board bar and cafe, interacting with customers and upkeeping health and safety standards. She even gets to “escort” people to the bow of the boat so they can grab a drink from one of the many alpine waterfalls.

Lillian loves all aspects of her job however, the things she loves best about her role is being able to share, what she calls “this little slice of paradise”, with everyone who visits. She knows some people have waited a long time and saved a lot of money to be able to tick this awesome experience off their bucket lists.

Lillian feels her first two terms at QRC has furthered her confidence to pursue a professional career in the adventure tourism industry. Not only does she understand the importance of delivering excellent customer service, but she also has a strong understanding about the fundamentals of the business and its operations.

Her dream job? Well, she is doing it now she says however, she does aspire to work her way up the ranks moving into senior management roles within the adventure industry.

Finally, her Words of Wisdom…
“Take the opportunities you're given; it's always going to turn out better than saying no.”

Prior to joining QRC Lilian had completed her studies at Riccarton High School.

We very much look forward to welcoming Lillian back on campus once she has completed her 9 month fully paid internship however, until then we wish her all the best as she continues to delight guest in one of NZ’s most iconic locations.

Employee of the Year - Bryanah Bowman

Hospitality Management student, @Bryanah Bowman is currently undertaking her 9 month fully paid internship at the Copthorne Hotel Auckland City where she was recently singled out by the General Manager for her outstanding service and commitment to her role. Shortly after she received a personalised letter from the companies Managing Director at Millennium & Copthorne Hotels New Zealand, advising she was receiving an achievement award for Employee of the Year as a result of her “going the extra mile”.

After attending Mercury Bay Area School, Bryanah chose to undertake a career in hospitality because she loves meeting new people and immersing herself within different cultures. She also has a passion for travelling so a career in the industry seemed to be a perfect fit.

With many institutions to choose from she joined QRC due to its location in NZ’s tourism capital. She was also attracted by the 9 month fully paid internship.

Bryanah is currently employed as a hotel attendant which means she works across departments. After starting off in housekeeping she is now working as a receptionist and occasionally helps out in the food and beverage department.

The variety of work and the opportunity to work across departments is one of the things she enjoys best about her current role. However, she also enjoys being a member of a very professional and supportive team. And of course, she loves the guests and always strives to meet and exceed their expectations

Her plans for the future?
“My ultimate career goal would be to have the opportunity to travel globally through my job and experience different cultures…”. She is also looking forward to progressing through the ranks to reach senior executive roles in the future.
