Graduate Story – Michelle Beattie

Michelle Beattie Hospitality Management

Michelle was passionate about customer service and hospitality ever since her Dargaville High School days! She loves to make people happy and her contagious smile makes her the perfect candidate for the industry. Landing on her feet in a 5 Star Boutique Hotel within the events team, she’s working hard on a range of exciting conferences and events.

“I have had the opportunity to look after major professional sports teams, like the All Blacks and Wallabies, served members of parliament, and so much more”.

Why did you choose to follow a career in tourism/hospitality?

Finishing school I never knew what I wanted to do. I knew I enjoyed making people happy and caring for them. So hospitality seemed like the best route! When joining QRC Tai Tokerau I realised how much passion I had for excellent customer service and making people happy. QRC gave me the right education and training I needed to make my passion shine through.

Where did you do your internship?

I was so lucky to work at the Novotel Rotorua and was cross trained in bar, restaurant, room service and event/conference spaces, giving me a wide range of experience in the majority of all things hospitality.

Tell me about your journey since leaving QRC?

Since leaving QRC Tai Tokerau I am now working at a 5 Star Boutique Hotel called Park Hyatt in Auckland that sits on the waterfront edge. My role is in the events team and we get a wide range of different events and conferences which makes each day different and something new. I have had the opportunity to look after major professional sports teams, like the All Blacks and Wallabies, served members of parliament, and so much more. I was able to come into this job with lots of background experience already as QRC had prepared me during my study and internship!

What are your plans for the future?

My next goal is to hopefully continue to move up in the team, and further down the track move into the sales roles and begin organising how the events will run!

What advice would you give your teenage self?

“Stop self doubt, have confidence and work hard!”
