Over The Top Helicopters Internship with Linda

Current internship student Linda is completing her 9-Month Fully Paid Internship with Over The Top Helicopters in Queenstown. Check out what an internship with an iconic local Queenstown company looks like.

What’s a day in the life of Linda on internship look like?

  • My days can change vastly depending on weather and what bookings we have that day. I could be doing anything from making picnics for guests to helping load and unload helicopters, or just helping with odd jobs around the office. The fact that no two days are the same is incredible.

What has been a highlight from internship so far?

  • I was lucky enough to experience one of the many Milford Sound flights where we fly over the sound landing at a remote west coast beach and then land on an alpine glacier, it is truly a sensory overload going from beautiful beaches to glaciers. Definitely the highlight of my internship with Over The Top.

How did the internship managers help you find your internship position?

  • My intern teacher Cass was a great help in finding an internship that aligned with what I personally wanted to learn and gain while on internship. Cass made sure that we were fully prepared for the industry by helping us create resumes and setting up mock interviews with local businesses in Queenstown. This prepared us all for our interviews with our Internship placements.

Any tips or advice for students preparing for internship?

  • Think about your internship as soon as possible get an idea of companies you would love to work for, but don’t limit yourself. Keep an open mind to opportunities that may arise.

What is one thing you have learnt on internship?

  • I have learnt so much while on internship: from how to take bookings to how to write ‘Standard Operating Procedures’. I also have a deeper understanding about how the tourism and aviation industry work.

What’s the best thing about living in Queenstown?

  • I mean what’s not to love about Queenstown? It’s such a beautiful place to live, and being able to stay at the Shotover Lodge student accommodation takes away so much stress about finding a place to live while on internship.
