Ti’a is currently on her 9-month fully paid internship with Peppers Soul Surfer Paradise as a Guest Service Agent. A hard and determined worker, she’s landed her dream role and is enjoying every minute of the experience – meeting new people and learning new skills! Check out what she’s got to say about her time over the ditch so far.
Give us a run down on a day in the life of Ti’a on internship:
- To start the mornings off right, we start with a swim at Paradise Point and get a smoothie! Head back home, do a few admin things and head off to work. Finishing work, go for a walk on Main Beach and head home to make dinner and watch the sunset from up the road. In and around that, catching up with friends and meeting new people.
What has been a highlight of internship so far?
- So far it has to be the people, the people I work with, the people I have met while being here but of course the Aussie vibe is like no other.
How did the internship managers help with your placement?
- In short, Adam helped by getting in contact with Georgia, who is Accor’s Talent Acquisition Advisor who I spoke to about Peppers Soul. This lead to an interview with Brad the Front Office Manager of Peppers Soul, who is a QRC Graduate and my internship mentor.
Ti’a’s Internship Tips:
A few tips for finding Internship:
- Find a place that suits you! I can’t say this enough but you need to feel a connection with the place you’ll be going to.
- It can be daunting if you are wanting to travel somewhere no one else is going, but we only regret the chances we didn’t take.
- Heading overseas? Get in contact with students that are where you want to go and they will help you with what you need to do before getting there.
- Finding accommodation can be difficult, ask your friends and family about this. Depending where you are going, research this early so you have an idea with price and availability.
- With interviews, ask questions about your goals and ambitions. Make sure the company is willing to help you reach your goals especially because you are there for the next 9 months
- Try something new, I love F&B and didn’t think about anything else until I had my interview. Now I am working in Guest Services and absolutely loving it!
- Always ask questions! To get the most out of internship you need to ask all the questions, big or small.
- Believe in yourself, its daunting but you got this!
