2022 Wrap up

Kia Ora,

As 2022 draws to an end it feels like a chapter will close on what has been a truly interesting period of time. While disruption has been prolific, it is always worth focusing on what went right – and in time I believe those associated with the QRC Community will appreciate the benefits of that disruption.

Highlights of 2022:

  • Tourism and Hospitality has proven to be incredibly resilient and demand for travel confirms that the modern world sees travel as more of a need than a want.
  • The focus on the employees – increasing capability, productivity and value has never been more topical.
  • Demand for Graduates and Interns is at an all-time high, with incredible opportunities being presented to them, both domestically and internationally.
  • Broadening our educational offering with our Machine Learning Fundamentals Certificate (Level 5). Working with global technology brands and experts to create a programme that meets the demands of a growing industry.
  • The introduction of our Tourism Careers platform enabling greater connection with employers and employees.
  • Our staff:
    • firstly, the loyalty and commitment many have shown towards QRC, therefore improving opportunities for students,
    • secondly – the new additions to the team have set QRC up for the future with regards to building depth and developing institutional knowledge.
  • Industry Partnerships – our relationship with Air New Zealand has gone from strength to strength and we look forward to working with them in the future to build New Zealand’s pipeline of industry leaders.

I want to thank all those who have attended, worked and supported QRC over the past 3 years – with a solid platform in place, QRC is excited about the year ahead. With waiting lists in place for some intakes next year we are again looking forward to welcoming new cohorts of students and playing our role in developing a talent pipeline for the Tourism, Business and Technology sectors.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas – and a safe, happy, and prosperous new year!

Ngā mihi,

Machine Learning Fundamentals (Level 5)

In November this year we launched our tech-driven Machine Learning Fundamentals Certificate (Level 5). Working with global technology brands and experts we designed this course to grow the talent pipeline within the tech sector. In just 16-weeks students will gain industry ready skills and a Level 5 Certificate made up of three micro-credentials.

The course is designed to take students with no prior experience in technology to a stage where they are industry ready upon graduation. 2023 intakes: April and August

Internship and Graduate outcomes

As Charlie mentioned in his opening welcome, tourism and hospitality has proven to be resilient. We are excited to see our internship and graduate students being presented opportunities like never before. Demand for our students is at an all time high with positions available domestically and internationally.

QRC students have been placed in roles across the country and the globe, between Disneyland to Air NZ, Aspen Colorado to iFly Queentown and Wolgan Valley to Cape Kidnappers Luxury Lodge.

Experience QRC

2022 saw us host our biggest EQRC year yet! Hosting over 200 students in our April, July and October Holiday Programme in Queenstown and Paihia. Year 13 and Year 12 students from various high-schools across the country joined us for 3-days to learn about our courses, studying in Paihia or Queenstown, experience student life and explore the campuses.

We are thrilled that many of these students who attended EQRC have now decided to pursue QRC for their future and begin their studies with us in 2023!

Industry Partnerships

Our partnership with Air New Zealand has gone from strength to strength and we are excited to be working with them into the New Year and beyond.

The introduction of the Tourism Careers platform enables interns and graduates to connect with employers helping find their dream job.

Developing further capability within the tourism, business and technology sectors.

Student Voice Queenstown

The final quarter of the year has been full of exciting events, from themed social gatherings at the QRC Lodge, sports tournaments, the term 5 leadership classes testing their limits at “The Mule”, familiarisation visits and the event of the year, the QRC student formal. We are fortunate to have had such a vibrant Student Council encouraging their fellow cohort to involve themselves in QRC life. The student council fulfills an important role in upholding the values and culture of QRC, we are grateful for their commitment and dedication towards the college!

Degree Pathways

We are proud to have articulation agreements in place with University’s so that students can go on to further study once they complete their QRC Diploma’s. Our articulation agreements are with, the University of Otago, International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS), Thompson Rivers University Canada and César Ritz Switzerland.

Shaun Olsen has recently graduated with a Bachelor in Business (Accounting) after just 7-months further study from QRC!

Finishing up his Diploma in Hospitality Management in September 2021, he jumped the ditch to Australia’s ICMS (International College of Management, Sydney) to complete his Bachelors Degree.

International Students Return!

It has been awhile however, we are thrilled to have been able to welcome several International Students into our cohorts throughout 2022 with more due to touch down on New Zealand soil in our 2023 intakes. This will continue to grow a rich cultural diversity within our student body. QRC is proud to have secured ABC College of English where students can take part in short English courses to enrich their English skillset.
