Practical Cloud Cybersecurity

The aim of this micro credential is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding in the fundamentals of cloud security. Learners will use cloud computing components in business scenarios, secure the cloud components, and provide access to those components to the people and cloud services that need that access, describe, and discuss the key concepts of modern cloud security, understand the core security services of the modern cloud, and demonstrate operational knowledge for cloud security and compliance.

Upon completion of this micro-credential learners will have gained the necessary skills and knowledge to proceed into further training in cloud security and computing, and further study in software development and management. On completion of this micro-credential, learners/ākonga will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of cloud security with storage buckets and Role Based Access Control (RBAC).
  2. Implement a secure cloud environment and provide appropriate access to different groups of people and applications.

Graduates of the micro-credential will be able to apply the fundamentals of Cloud Security to entry level roles in the New Zealand tech, corporate and Health and Education sectors as:

  • Entry-level Cloud Administrator
  • Entry-level IT support specialist
  • Entry-level Cloud Solution Architect
  • Entry-level Cloud Security Analyst

What is the format of this course?
  • This course uses blended learning.
    • Compulsory 2-day in-person workshop in Queenstown, held on the first two days of your course (please note this 2-day work shop does not include accommodation or flights).
    • Followed by 5-weeks of online learning with tutor check-ins.
  • You will be assessed via weekly quizzes and an e-workbook relating to how you will use AI within a business problem.
How long is this course?
  • 3-weeks.
Is this course 100% online learning?
  • No – there is a 2-day in-person workshop (Queenstown or Auckland). Research has shown that blended delivery yields the best student outcome and learning outcome.
  • The 2-day in-person workshop will be held at the start of your course and is compulsory.
  • (Please note this 2-day work shop does not include accommodation or flights).
What’s the time commitment?
  • It is recommended that students allocate five hours per week of study to the course.
    • Two hours of online learning and three hours of self directed learning.
  • The online lectures are recorded, allowing students to listen at their convenience.
  • There will be a weekly tutorial session where students can check in and ask questions about coursework or assignments.
What if I have questions or need learning support during the course?
  • There is a weekly check in with the teaching team should you need help and forums to ask your questions.

Entry requirements
  • 18 years+ at time of course.
  • A New Zealand or Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Applicants will be interviewed to ensure course suitability (digital literacy) and specific learner needs from a pastoral care perspective.
  • International students: If English is not your first language, evidence of competency in English is required: Achievement of NCEA Level 3 and met New Zealand University requirements, OR English proficiency of an IELTS score of 6 with no band less than 5.5 or Pearson Test of English score of 50 with no band score lower than 42 AND English proficiency outcome needs to have been achieved in the last two years before enrolment and in one sitting.
