Meet Diploma of Hospitality Management alumni Melanie Mayer who, after graduating from QRC in 2017, went on to complete a Bachelor in Hospitality Management with one of our partners, the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS), achieving Dux and the highest GPA score.
Whilst at QRC, Melanie interned at the Copthorne Queenstown in the Food & Beverage division and then moved on to the St Moritz, a prestigious 5-star Accor property, after graduation to get some more practical experience before attending ICMS in Australia.
Fast forward to December 2018 and, with a newly minted degree under her belt, Melanie returned to Queenstown to work at the Scenic Circle Hotel. She started in the front office but her skills were quickly recognised – in May 2019 she was offered a place in the hotel’s Management Trainee programme and was promoted to Duty Manager.
The 18-month programme includes training at Scenic Circle’s Christchurch and Niue properties. Upon completion, Melanie will move into a Head of Department role.
Melanie says: “I thoroughly enjoyed studying at QRC and it gave me the knowledge, with classes taught by industry professionals, and experience due to my internship, to strive in my career. I would always choose QRC again.”
